Repair often comes with refinishing because paint often covers up worn edges, scrapes and scratches, damaged finishes or even injuries to the piece.
Once the real treasure is uncovered, keeping the patina while making repairs and restoring the piece to strength and beauty is a balancing act between skill and art.
When it is done, though, it is worth all the effort, and giving it back to the owner is like giving a daughter in marriage. It is beautiful and will make someone very happy, and you knew it was never yours to begin with, but you feel like you are losing a child you have raised from the cradle.
