This table was built into an alcove in an inner wall inside a stone building from the 1880's. There was very little room but the residents wanted something nice in the alcove and wanted a sofa table no more than twelve inches deep when closed. The real trick was the request for a six foot table when fully extended and to make the storage for the leaves under the table when compressed. Here one leaf is in the table.

Here the table is fully compressed and the leaf is stored in the drawer that slides into the alcove under the table. Also shown are the wine racks the customer ordered and matching salt and pepper shakers.

The table is fully extended and the leaves are now put away. Visible are the wooden table glides and the handle on top of the leaf drawer which is used to keep center pressure on the drawer when opening and closing.

With two of the three sixteen inch leaves inserted we get to pose with our work. The table is solid hard maple and the color is a direct match of the kitchen just to the right of the picture.

As a custom wood working shop we love to take on special projects like this one. Our challenge is to do the impossible with style.

We also work with mirrors as part of built-in custom projects. If you have an unusual situation and need someone to engineer and make beautiful solid wood furniture, or glass and woodwork, we would love to give your project a try.
